i could write four posts on t-shirts alone because that’s how much i believe in them as a wardrobe staple and how much it impacts your closet to have a few strong go-to options at all times. black, white, grey, a stripe and a couple of low key graphic ones if that’s your thing. they are the key component to so many outfits and you’ll feel like you can get dressed much faster if you have t-shirts that you love and that fit well. you can layer them under jackets, sweaters and even dresses, wear them with everything from causal jeans to overalls and fancy skirts. i promise that a great t-shirt is always a welcomed addition to any closet and most likely something you’re missing. you’ll notice that almost all of inspiration picks show a crew neck t-shirt but if you are busty (like myself) a v-neck is generally more flattering. i also like to have few sleeveless options too. – joanie

($70) – i really like the tee’s from Velvet. yes, i know they are $70 but they often have great sales and you’ll wear the heck out of it. i have included a lot of budget friendly options but also some that’s i’ve tried and love that are expensive too. i also love the .
($10) – i love the romantic touch of the full sleeve that is slightly gathered at the shoulder. it’s sweet without being too girly.
– ($7) – i love a linen t-shirt. they have a worn in look that is hard to achieve with other fabrics and they really lay nicely against the skin and they also wear in well with time.
($20) – i think there is a time and a place for a graphic t-shirt. i like this one because of the subdued colors and i’d like it paired with a full skirt or under a fitted jacket.
($48) – cropped, ribbed and super fitted. this is a killer layering piece. and i love ribbed anything!
– ($80) – i’m annoyed with myself for liking this $80 t-shirt. i bought one at a re/done sample sale and i wear it all of the time. the cotton is perfectly worn in, thin but not too thin and the pocket is a nice touch. i like bigger t-shirts tucked in, gives you some definition at the waist with a casual ease in the fit.
($72) – i was gifted this by a friend and have worn it non-stop since. it’s currently sold out but you can leave your email address and they’ll let you know when they re-stock.
– ($16) – this is one of my favorite t-shirt finds of all time. this store is geared toward teens but they happen to make amazing basics. they only come in one size (small/medium) which is a bummer but if that’s your size you’re going to be thrilled to know about them.
($48) – i love the off white color and the seamless shoulders. the cut of it has an effortless relaxed feel.

and some inspiration…

round mirrors | designlovefest

mirrors are a great way to make a space brighter and appear more open, but while rectangular mirrors are everywhere round mirrors make a striking contrast to rectangular-centric spaces. tables, desks, and even sofas form rectangular shapes throughout most rooms. the circular shape, on the other hand, adds  unique character while making a space look much bigger: think a round mirror above a rectangular table or desk for contrast. round mirrors are inspiring in an entryway or bathroom, but you can try this look in almost any space. shop this visual and bold look below!

STYLED / 03

denim is my go-to and my closet is filled with all different types, cropped, wide leg, boyfriend, skinny, you name it. i would say that there is an abundance of skinny jeans out there which are great and have a rightful place in your closet but sometimes it’s nice to mix it up. skinny jeans work well with oversized sweaters, or longer coats but they don’t, because of how form fitted they are, always work as well with shorter items, like a cropped sweater or just a simple t-shirt tucked in. i rounded up a few denim options that aren’t skinny jeans but are also not completely oversized bell bottoms. there is a lot of middle ground with denim and i think these are are all fun and versatile options for any closet.  – joanie

($43) – split hem denim has been making the rounds in fashion, it’s slightly undone and relaxed without the tattered look of frayed denim. i like the mid-rise of this jean.
($50) – an edgier more trendy denim option at an affordable price.
($268) – baggy but fitted through the hips and butt so it still gives you a little shape.
($198) – i’ve been on the hunt for a pair of patchwork denim that feels a little 70’s but with a modern silhouette. i think these fit the bill nicely!
($100) – i totally understand that overalls are very trendy but i also think they deserve a chance. i like them best in black as it feels more sophisticated and paired with a feminine blouse underneath. you’ll be amazed how many times you reach for your overalls!
($158) – i own these jeans, i love these jeans and wear them all of the time. they are the closest you’re going to get to vintage levi’s without digging trying on 100 vintage pairs. these are great with shorter, cropped items as the fit is high.
($275) – i really like the large cuff paired with a super simple flat shoe. they have an ease through the leg that makes them very flattering.
($368) – can’t get enough of the ultra light wash with the pale pink patches. i don’t think i’m cool enough to pull these off but i know one of you out there is.
($265) – the fringe isn’t for everyone but i really dig these. i like how simple the cut of the pant is paired with the punch of fringe at the bottom. a simple tee is all you’d need with these.

here are a few inspiration pictures to get you inspired!

BREAKFAST IN BED

breakfast in bed | designlovefest

happy valentine’s day! let’s all celebrate by making breakfast in bed for ourselves or someone we love! i’m not exactly sure what makes breakfast in bed feel like such a luxury but it certainly feels like one. since childhood it has been something that i look forward to. there are seven children in my family and we’d each get waffles in bed on our birthday. all of my siblings and parents would come in together singing happy birthday carrying a plate with a homemade waffle the size of my head and it felt exciting, every time.

the waffle recipe i use now is one i adapted from allrecipes.com and it’s the perfect amount of crunch on the outside with soft in the center. the trick is beating the egg whites on their own before adding the yolk. for this post we decided to make them chocolate by adding cocoa powder but that’s an addition that you can easily leave out. also, this recipe only requires one bowl making it a very practical recipe to whip together in the early morning hours. we hope you enjoy your day celebrating all of the love in your life and all of the love you give to others!  – joanie
