FAVORITE COOKING SHOWS

i’ve been cooking at least one meal almost everyday for a few months now. i find that it’s incredibly relaxing and really fun to watch myself get better the more i do it. after each meal i’m really honest with myself about what could be improved in the dish and sometimes i’ll even cook it twice to satisfy my inner perfectionist. joanie and i have been talking about how nowadays we are always trying to do at least two things at once and how bad that must be for us. playing with our phones while watching a movie (or while we do anything, really)…we are always multitasking and our brains never get a break that way. cooking has brought this new sense of focus and patience that i feel like i really needed. it has been my relief.

here are a few of the meals i’ve made lately. (i make a variation of this baked eggs recipe 3 times a week at least. and i am always making recipes from joanie and ivan’s food column. so many good ideas there!) it’s also really made me happy to document this special time in my life. living with justin and making a home together. we spend so much time in the kitchen together and i wouldn’t want it any other way.

i have to say, i enjoy plating and garnishing just as much as i love cooking the meal. my favorite recipes are very simple and require just a few great ingredients and fresh herbs. i’m sure i’ll get into the more complicated stuff later, but for now i like to keep it simple and pretty.

i also find it VERY relaxing to just zone out with cooking shows and videos. here are a few of my favorites lately and i would love love to hear more of what you love watching in the comments!

MIND OF A CHEF

while i love all of the seasons of this show, i was incredibly inspired by the . he will blow your mind and impress you with his attention to detail. (you can watch on netflix)

KITCHEN STORIES

justin showed me this app on our apple tv called . i don’t like the sped up fast videos as much as their newer style which is slow, relaxed and very easy to learn from. download the app and watch tons of recipes on a sunday. it’s the best. (then you can get the when you want to make something) when i wasn’t cooking as much i used to like zoning out to those quick videos on tasty…but they don’t really teach you how to cook and are usually just really unhealthy recipes. they are more for entertainment than learning, do you agree?

NO CRUMBS LEFT

a few people recommended her to me on . she’s a mom that really loves to cook and is always making something that looks good on . they are informative and kind of addicting. she also puts her recipes

i’ve always kind of liked top chef, but it is more fun to watch with someone every week. i got really into this latest season. especially towards the end, the chefs were so fun to watch. (shirley forever)

VALLEYBRINK ROAD

she’s a sweet friend of mine that inspires me a lot. always in the kitchen making food for her family that looks good and isn’t daunting to make. her

is it cheesy that i really liked this movie? sometimes i feel like amy adams because i have no idea what i’m doing but really care about it. it’s a great weeknight movie, make a meal and watch it! (i think it’s on hulu)

if i am watching food network, it’s gonna be . feels very safe space for me. she’s relaxing, cooks a lot of approachable recipes, and i just like her. right!?

of course is amazing. very much up there with mind of a chef. the passion, dedication, creativity, the stories, colors…i could go on and on. a definite must see (especially season 1)

ps…justin likes and

now, please tell me MORE! i need all the help i can get. xo bri

shelf styling ideas | designlovefest

shelves can be a huge eyesore sometimes. we tend to stuff in books until they’re overflowing, and never actually organize them. i wanted to share some shelf styling ideas so you can store your favorite books and keep your shelf pretty at the same time! here are a few tips. #1: have a color palette for the shelf. i’m kind of obsessed the all-white example below, but you can add in a few colors too, just keep them consistent. tip #2: mix things up for variation and shape. don’t just include books, add in some art, plants, and fun accessories. #3: play around! style a few books horizontally, then a few vertically. fill in some spaces with accessories and spread everything out so it doesn’t clash or fight against one another. happy shelf styling!

STYLED 19 | designlovefest

it’s officially summer and the 4th of july is right around the corner! i get it, patriotic dressing isn’t for everyone but i always like to throw on a little red, white and blue to celebrate America’s independence. it doesn’t have to be cheesy, there are tons of cute striped and gingham options that can definitely be worn all year long. or even do something as simple as a bandana around your neck. i have a closet with tons of white and blue options but for some reason i don’t think i own a single red item. gotta change that! hope you’re enjoying the start to summer, the longer days, higher temps and general laid back feeling that summer brings. – joanie

 – classic shape and could be worn with a different top or bottom if you were filling all that red and white stripe.
 – you can never have too many Clare V clutches!
 – kimonos are very flattering and versatile. you can wear them over your jeans or shorts but my favorite way to wear them is over a bathing suit. just enough coverage and a whole lot of flow.
 – long live the wrap dress, flattering, easy to wear, and provides a nice line of the leg with it’s wrapped side.
 – i love these slides and they are currently the “it” Zara shoe to own. they also come in mustard yellow, very cute but not very patriotic.
 – this super sweet off the shoulder mini dress, love it paired with a light colored straw hat.
 – the cool girl tee to wear to that backyard bbq.
 – a small investment to make and something that will certainly get heavy rotation in your closet!
 – dots on dots but with a tied waist and just enough movement in the skirt makes it a casual piece for day or night.
