WILD COLLAB!

last year we started designing a with my best friend from high school, and co-owner of ! we go so far back and have supported each other through so much, and i’m SO proud of what her business has become. the mumu logo was actually one of my first graphic design projects way back in the day! we also started a furniture company in high school where we would buy vintage furniture and repaint it wacky colors. we only sold two pieces, haha! but the point is, we have always had a strong desire to make ideas happen, to have fun while doing it, and it’s a friendship i will always cherish.

insert ! based on a wild friendship and a love of wildflowers, we created 4 tees and a jean jacket for the wild at heart…

we created the , a little cropped (but not toooo cropped), a “wild” embroidery, and 4 cool colors. we have a cream, charcoal, black and white stripe, and a rose color! (i think is my fave, what about you!?) and they are made in the US!

i seriously love the fit of this jacket because it’s casual but also can be dressed up. it’s a little more fitted and i think it’s really flattering. we added a wildflower embroidery on the pocket which was inspired by always picking wildflower bundles. now you can carry them around everywhere. and we also added this fun surprise detail when you roll your sleeves up…

STRAW HATS!

i have an unending love for straw hats but have the hardest time storing them properly to keep them accessible but also keep them from getting crushed/losing their shape. i have a small closet and i’m on a never ending cycle of trying to find a way to make it reasonably organized. currently, i’m massively failing at keeping any kind of order but i love the idea of using my straw hats/bags as a focal point in the entry way or bedroom. when they are all tonal it looks so pretty and very practical for someone like me who owns too many and likes them within arms reach! i love the second image below that’s by our friend of her entry way, so simple and pretty!

STYLED / UNDERWEAR

I have been in desperate need of new underwear for sometime but wasn’t letting myself buy any due to my three month shopping hiatus. i finally decided the situation was dire enough to make an exception and bought some pairs from J.Crew’s new intimate line. they are really reasonably priced (especially considering that they are often having a 30% off sale!), pretty colors and basic styles that are cute but not overly sexy for everyday wear. i personally like simple designs, and clean lines in solid colors (although i do like the leopard print!).  i have found their swimsuits to fit well so i have high hopes that these will be the same. in the past, i’d gravitate towards lace pairs but found that they don’t stay on my hips and end up sliding down during the day. and they also wear out quickly. i just got my order and i’m happy to report that i really like them so far, but i’ll keep you posted on how they wear. i will say that I think they run small so maybe order one size up. i’m generally a 2/4 and the size small fit but on the snug side. i highlighted some of my favorites below. the and pieces are highlights!   – joanie

WEEKEND AT HOME / 103

natural elements are giving me lots of inspiration lately–think rattan, wicker, cane-backed chairs. there’s something so natural about rattan. i love how it feels like you’re bringing a bit of nature indoors. i’ve been wanting to design a room of all neutrals and light birch wood furniture, and rattan is definitely going to make an appearance. for now, i’m ogling these lovely rattan pieces! how adorable is that daisy chair? what do you think of rattan? get inspired with me, and shop the look below!

CROQUE MADAME

croque madame | designlovefest

you’re going to make this sauce and want to use it on everything! it’s so cheesy and decadent. ivan took the leftovers and made mac + cheese with it which also sounds SO good. such a simple recipe to throw together and feels very impressive. i liked mine without the egg, but the egg makes it more breakfast appropriate. the recipe was inspired by on Food&Wine and it’s definitely fun to make when you’re feeling a little indulgent! – joanie

makes 4 servings

what you’ll need:

• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1 1/2 tablespoons all purpose flour
• 1 cup milk
• salt
• chopped chives for garnish

• 4 cups mixed greens

• salt and pepper to taste

• in a pot melt butter on medium heat, once melted slowly whisk in the flour. constantly stirring for about a minute or until the mixture begins to thicken. add milk and shredded gruyere cheese, continue to stir on low heat for another 3-5 minutes, don’t let it burn! remove from heat.

• we used a cast iron skillet to lightly toast our thick slices of french loaf on both sides but a regular toaster works fine too. next turn broiler on. place your toast on a baking sheet lined with parchment, add one to two spoonfuls of sauce to each slice and smooth to cover the surface, then add the sliced ham, cover with shredded gruyere cheese. place the baking sheet in the broiler and broil until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

• fry four eggs to your liking. add each fried eggs to each of the toast, top with chopped chives and serve with the mixed greens salad. for the mixed salad, we just placed some fresh greens in a bowl with a bit of red wine vinegar and high quality olive oil. add a sprinkle of salt and enjoy!
