i definitely gotta pinch myself on this one, guys! i’ve been waiting SO long for these target products to be released, and i’m so happy the week is finally here when i can talk about it! this travel line was a total dream for me to be a part of, because travel is something that feels very close to my heart. i really feel the most inspired when i’m somewhere new. after the line of plates and cups we did in target last year, they approached me about doing a line of. i didn’t think twice about it…

i wanted to create a line that felt chic but also affordable. my favorites are the blush toned items with the black and white pattern accents. i envisioned cool details in the line like gold zippers and matching add-on tassels. i wanted it to feel fun to carry, but also very functional.

the line also includes a travel pillow/eye mask set, a backpack, a cosmetic bag, a travel tote, packing cubes and more. you can see the whole line online right !

jesse and i headed to the big island in hawaii to shoot the luggage in a tropical environment, which was part of my inspiration. we also have a set of for the not-so-girly girl!

this honestly is such a surreal moment for me, i don’t think it’s even really sunk in yet. but it has had me fully smiling looking at the messages and instastories from people buying it in the stores! make sure to tag me if you go so i can be there with ya and repost!!

i love that cosmetic bag, and use it everywhere i go. , it’s only $9.99!

your comments really do mean the world to me. i’m so thrilled about this and it feels so amazing to have your support and to feel your excitement. please leave me a comment if you pick up anything or in the stores!! it should be in all target stores by now (a few stores might take a couple more days) love you guys!! xx bri

i’m calling this style post “what i’d buy bri.” bri and i are continually talking about rebuilding her closet and making it so she doesn’t dread getting dressed in the morning and also streamlining the experience so that it doesn’t take a lot of time to get ready. a common mistake that people make with their wardrobe is shopping for specific occasions. people don’t buy things they love when they see them because they don’t need them but then you’ll have an event or a party or a trip and they’ll go shopping for that one thing which inevitably means that they are going to spend too much money on things they probably won’t wear because they are in a panic.

bri’s life revolves around a lot of events and travel she she has a bunch of great cocktail and fancy dress options but when it comes to day to day attire she has a limited selection of items she likes. she also hasn’t done a real closet update in about 6 years which means she went from being in her mid-twenties to early thirties and those years can mean a lot of changes for your body and style. it’s okay that you don’t fit into that too short romper that you bought when you were 24 your body changes and finding clothes to suit you now is the goal. for every day wear bri likes elevated basics with a little edge, tattered black jeans, flat boots, t-shirts with cool jackets over them. she also likes romantic dresses that can be worn with a denim jacket and sneakers. so with that in mind here are the 9 things i’d buy for bri. – joanie

–  ($189) – long, light weight and in a pretty print. this is great over jeans and a t-shirt, it dresses it up without adding the bulk and weight of a sweater or jacket. it’s also cute over a bikini in the summer
–  ($128) – bri was lamenting a pair of ripped black jeans that have gotten too worn out so we found these to replace them. just cropped enough to show the ankle bone and worn in but not totally distressed. the 9″ rise on these is a great in-between, not too low and not too high and i love that the hem is frayed.
–  ($198) – they already show it paired with sneakers which is probably how bri would wear it. the color is great with blonde hair and the fitted top with movement in the skirt is ideal for bri’s body type.
–  ($158) – i’m really only into light denim jackets and i think this one fits perfectly with bri’s 70’s cool girl styled. she wears a lot of casual jackets and this would work perfectly over nicer dresses to make them more day appropriate.
– ($148) – this dress is a home run. the v-neck with the slight wrap at the waist is going to make it super flattering.
($148) – the color of this jacket is a nice departure from a classic denim or military jacket. i like the idea of bomber jackets but they are often too puffy or bulky. this feels like a good mix and the contrasting waist band and collar is a nice touch.
($50) – this is a slight risk for bri. it’s more form fitted and sexy then what she might typically wear but i think it’d be great on her. she has what i call a petite curvy body. her body structure is small but she still has curves. the deep v is flattering on someone with big boobs and the wrap accents her waist (which is what you want to highlight with curves).
–  ($110) – bri owns a couple of military jackets but i like that this one is a little more streamlined with less pockets then most and it’s also a swing coat and the sleeves can be cuffed which makes it feel very relaxed and cool.
($258) – we’re big fans of Dôen over here at DLF and this dress is basically bri’s dream – super soft cotton, fitted sleeves, cool print, flowy skirt, its got it all!

and now for a little walk down memory line to see how bri’s style has evolved. these are all images from old style posts she’s shared on the blog, so much color and so much vintage!

and below, a few more recent posts of her style over the last year or so working to where she is now. it’s fun to take a look back at your personal style journey. mine isn’t as well documented as bri’s but i have my share of “Facebook memories” that pop up and remind me of what use to be. wherever you are on your style journey the most important thing is to pay attention to how you feel. wear what makes you feel like yourself and comfortable and don’t let any trend or style forecasts take away from that. personal style is just that, personal.

last night i had natalie over to my house for one of our takeout and wine brainstorm sessions for a job we have coming up. we were working on decluttering my kitchen cabinets and i came down pretty hard on myself after i realized how bad my avoidant behaviors had gotten. i laid in bed and my mind swirled around with all the things i’d put off out of irrational fear, laziness, or just plain didn’t want to do it syndrome. my huge stack of mail by my front door i refuse to open, my christmas tree still in the driveway, the gyno appointment i need to make, and oh god the dentist too, the junk drawers all over my house, my desktop that needs to be organized, the cat litter i always put off buying till the last second. it feels like behind every cabinet or drawer is a mess i have avoided, and that if it isn’t a job i probably will just put it off.

a few weeks ago i headed back to st. simons island to finally get to see the HGTV dream home in person. every year HGTV gives away a massive prize, a fully decorated home along with a nice chunk of money, and a car. the grand-prize package is valued at over $1.7 million! (you can still enter everyday to win until feb 17th right !) on the episode that aired this year, i was the travel host showing the audience what there is to do on the island if they won the house. it was a totally new experience for me, one that pushed me out of my comfort zone, but in the best way.

this post is extra exciting because as a thank you for following along with us we’ve partnered with to giveaway one of their new new  to a reader! it’s a staple in our kitchen and used to make all three of the recipes below.

one of my intentions for the new year is to try to pack my lunch for the office. it’s more economical, healthier and also helps to avoid skipping meals (which always leaves me tired and grumpy). we came up with three items that are simple to make, hold up well in the refrigerator and can be kept for a few days so you can make a bunch and eat it throughout the week. we hope you enjoy! p.s. you can buy the eco friendly lunch box, !

riced cauliflower bowl:

this was the first time that i made cauliflower rice on my own and i was SHOCKED at how easy it was and how well it turned out. i know people always say things like this but it’s true – you won’t miss real rice with this recipe.

what you’ll need:
• 1 head of cauliflower, roughly chopped
• 1 red bell pepper sliced and deseeded
• quarter red onion sliced
• 1 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed
• 1 cup canned whole corn drained and rinsed
• half avocado diced
• 3-4 kale leaves de-stemmed and chopped
• 1 lime
• 1/2 teaspoon cumin
• 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
• salt to taste
• 2 tablespoon olive oil

heat olive oil on medium heat in a medium sized skillet. Sauté the red bell pepper, red onion, and kale. squeeze half a lime and salt to taste. set aside.

in your Vitamix, set on level 4 gradually drop small cauliflower florets until all the pieces have been finely riced. this step is important, don’t put all of the cauliflower in at once!

In a saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil on medium heat, once heated toast the riced cauliflower for about 4-5 minutes. mix in the cumin and chili powder, and 1 teaspoon salt.

to assemble, place the diced avocado, corn, black beans, sautéed veggies and cauliflower rice in a food safe travel container. place the remaining lime to garnish. we also served ours with a side of salsa and chips.

As an option, you could also use the light jalapeño ranch dip as a dressing for the riced cauliflower bowl.

light jalapeño ranch dip:
we used the jalapeño dip with both the collard green wrap and the cauliflower rice bowl. it’s also great as a dip for your corn chips!

• 1 cup greek yogurt
• 1/4 cup chives diced
• 2 cloves garlic
• 1 teaspoon salt:
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1/2 jalapeno seeded
• 1/2 lemon squeezed
• quarter cup buttermilk
• crack of pepper

In the Vitamix, add all the ingredients minus the buttermilk. Put the blender on a low setting until the mixture is smooth, then as the Vitamix continues to run pour the buttermilk in a slow steady stream, stopping to scrape the sides with a spatula. mix until incorporated.

cashew butter:
make this at home and keep a jar in your work fridge to pair with sliced apples, on toast with bananas or to eat by the spoon when you need something to tide you over. it’s the perfect snack!

what you’ll need:
• 2 cups roasted and salted cashews
• 1/4 cup of coconut oil (melted)
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 tablespoon raw honey

packable lunch recipes | designlovefest

start by placing your cashews in your Vitamix and slowly increase the speed from 2 – 8 stopping every now and then to scrape the sides. this will take around 5 -8 minutes, once it has a slightly creamy texture add all remaining ingredients except for the coconut oil and blend again. if the consistency is dry slowly add the oil while the Vitamix is running. store in an airtight container.

collard greens wraps:
this recipe is killing two birds with one stone – eating more veggies and packing a lunch! blanching the collard greens makes them easy to wrap and the creamy avocado and the spicy jalapeño dip bring it all together nicely (and guilt free).
