SAMSUNG KBIS + PAD SEE EW!

Samsung KBIS | designlovefest

last week we went to vegas for a quick two day trip to the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show. i was excited to see all the new appliances that is introducing! i have their and in my house and they have been great supporters of my cooking journey this past year. i never thought i’d become such a kitchen nerd but i truly am, i get so thrilled even thinking about cooking and i loved learning the in’s and out’s of their new products.  has a lot of the same features of the industrial ovens we’re using in cooking school. i never realized how important temperature is until culinary school, and being able to adjust a burner to super intense heat and also simmer consistently at a very low temp is awesome.

AND! i’m going to show you joanie’s new favorite recipe for pad see ew (so quick and easy) and a look at the new products samsung has available for those of you looking to update your kitchen!

i love how they styled their new Tuscan Kitchen collection. the whole idea with this collection was to bring nature and home together, so they created this earthy tone that goes great with woods and natural textures. i also love that the color really compliments its surroundings and picks up the hues of what it’s next to.

they worked with Samsung Club des Chef members, an advisory board of Michelin-starred chefs for Samsung Kitchen Appliances, including  on creating the  using their years of restaurant kitchen experience and bringing that to the home cook. there was so much cool technology and connectivity (feels like the future) like being able to pre-heat your oven from your phone, knobs that tell you if you left a burner on, steam cooking capabilities, etc. as well as simple nice design details, like how you can get a fridge that blends seamlessly into your walls and cabinets, matching the finish and having a completely flat exterior. the matte black color is super cool too.

thanks for having us, Samsung!

ok, let’s make a recipe…

what you’ll need// if you have a thai market in your town, go! but if not, many of the items are available for order online.

• 1 cup chopped tofu
• 1/2 cup blanched broccoli, chopped
• fresh pad see ew noodles (some whole food carry them, or your thai market!)
• egg
• 1 tablespoon (this is a thicker, slightly sweet soy sauce!)
• 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
• 2 tablespoons seasoning sauce (this is chef yenbramroong’s special sauce, it’s 1 1/2 cups , 1 cup oyster sauce, 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar, mix it all up and keep in your fridge to use as need!)

one tip he gives in the book is to not double up the recipe, if you want to make more than one serving, do them in separate batches to maintain the proper heat in the wok and not over crowd it.

Samsung KBIS | designlovefest

  1. heat your wok until it starts to smoke, add 2 tablespoons canola oil and swirl. add in the tofu and cook until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
  2. add in the noodles, sprinkling with the sugar so they don’t stick. add the 2 tablespoons seasoning sauce and mix. throw in the broccoli.
  3. push everything to one side and crack the egg, let cook for 10-15 seconds and then mix in all together.
  4. pour the black soy sauce over everything and mix well. let sit on the heat for 1-2 more minutes, stirring occasionally. remove and serve!

NEW NEW!

and just like that, a new year! slowly transitioning out of my vacation haze and back into reality. it was so nice to unplug for a bit, definitely going to be doing more of that in 2019. i know we all just got done with a crazy season of gifting but there are so damn good post-holiday sales going on. makes me wonder if we shouldn’t push gift buying to january?! i usually buy a couple of things a year at the . they have deep discounts, great customer service and lots of brands i love. i don’t shop seasonally, i.e. if i see a great jacket in june i’ll buy it or a summer dress in january, etc.  i believe in snatching things you love up when you find them so you don’t end up making an impulse buy down the line when you need something on the fly. i also do well buying basics on sale, they can get overlooked but denim usually gets really discounted as well as basics like sweaters and tees. for example, brands like that have great but expensive basics that you can find at 50% off, like this . other favorites include this , this  and this that is truly a jacket for life. oh and this sweet little bag in a wear with everything shade of purple. i won’t be buy any of these things as i put myself on a post-holiday budget but it’s fun to look! – joanie

and how fun is this on sale for $118?! also, this is divine.

also lots and lots of fun bags! love the sweet little with the striped lining!

i was obsessing over this when it came out and now it’s on sale. love them together or worn as separates!

KIMCHI FRIED RICE

kimchi fried rice | designlovefest

i’m a fried rice lover and always have a bag of trader joe’s fried rice in my freezer for a quick dinner. i love this version for the healthy kick of kimchi and the highly addicting flavor of the korean chili paste (you’ll want to put it on everything!). this is such a simple dinner and you could add a variety of veggies to make it really pack a punch. it would be great with a bunch of wilted kale or a hardy veggie like that. – joanie

SUMMER WHITES

something about summer that makes me want to wear white every single day. i love a white blouse tucked into jean shorts, worn half unbuttoned over a bikini, or tied up at the waist with your favorite skirt. here are few white tops i have my eye on, most of them at a very reasonable price! – joanie

$35  – i love the romance of an off the shoulder blouse.

$128 – i’m okay with long sleeves in the summer heat as long as they aren’t skin tight. this top has a fun, laid back feeling.

$98  – such a pretty little piece with the lace ruffles around the edges. i love anything that feels victorian!

$45 – high neck and bare shoulders all the way! i like how they styled her hair on top of her head for this look too, i’d do the same.

$99 – i own this top and have worn it so many times this summer. such a simple piece but it’s great with jeans or a skirt. half linen, half cotton.

$45 –  very into swiss dot with anything and everything!

$40 – can’t belive this is H&M, i love it so much. the soft v-neck and the delicate sleeve detail.

 $30 – simple and sweet.

$30 – for the petite people in our lives! and love the cinches waist.

OUR T-SHIRT!

the perfect t-shirt | designlovefest

as you probably heard last week, we launched a with ! i really wanted to highlight the t-shirt for a minute because it was such a labor of love (took almost a year to get right!) and it is such a great shirt. as you know, i run the styled column on the blog and i’ve done a couple of posts highlighting some of my favorite tees. a t-shirt is a foundational piece for a wardrobe and over the years i’ve amassed a collection. i can pull out a shirt from my closet and tell you why i like it and also what i’d change about it. i’ve always wanted to be able to participate in designing one so this project was particularly exciting for me. i don’t think i even realized how much goes into designing something like this, so many meetings about the fabric and then about the cut and the fit and the embroidery. what we ended up with is a t-shirt that is 100% cotton (which is very important as it won’t stretch out and will hold up in washing!), a slightly distressed neckline so that it doesn’t look too perfect, the perfect sleeve length that flatters the arm, the length of the shirt hits right below your belly button which makes it very wearable, it looks great with a half tuck and is not too cropped which makes it much more timeless! there are so many directions you can go with a t-shirt’s fit but we made this one with a slightly boxy cut which gives it a real ease when wearing it and will pair well with so many things, like denim shorts, fitted overalls, a mini skirt or just a pair of jeans. we created four colors so there is something for everyone. i love the paired with super light denim, with a pair of dark jeans, is really pretty against the skin and the is an easy go-to all year long.

the perfect t-shirt | designlovefest
the perfect t-shirt | designlovefest

oh, and it’s made in the US which is also important to note! in terms of sizing, with a boxy t-shirt like this it’s most important that it fits you in the shoulder, i’d say order your normal size but if you get the denim jacket be sure to order up!

if you ordered one, i’d love to hear what you think! we had so much fun putting this little collection together and seeing people wearing it and loving it is just the best. we hope you love it! – joanie
