LIGHTBOX

lightbox | designlovefest

excited to share this shoot with you guys!! i’ve been working with on an ongoing partnership and this was a shoot that I recently art directed for them. i’ll show you my inspiration, my idea process and the final product!

THE CONCEPT

is a line of of jewelry created exclusively with lab-grown diamonds. their whole philosophy is to take something, like jewelry and make it more approachable, playful and fun. because the gems are lab-grown and not rare they are able to offer them at a much lower price point than natural diamonds ($800 per carat!) which makes them a great gift to give to yourself to celebrate a personal milestone, your sister or a friend. i like that they take the “romance” and seriousness out of fine jewelry by adding colors (blue + pink!) and keeping their images really lighthearted and inviting. for this shoot i wanted to enhance the beauty of reflection and the bouncing light that make jewels so appealing. taking the idea of brightness, light and shine and weaving that throughout the images. my mind couldn’t get away from that star flare, so i kinda ran with that idea and tried to incorporate it with the styling, the makeup, the lighting, the textures and the props that we used. i was very inspired by and her vibe! here’s some of my inspiration if you want to take a look….

i wanted it to feel playful, lively, and pretty without feeling too young. since they are a new brand i was trying to portray what my first impressions of were in an image format. simple yet stunning. sophisticated and modern. i wanted clean lines, tonal colors, and a dreamy setting. always understands how to dive into a concept and have fun with it, i love what she did with these!

we used almost every piece from their collection and had fun creating layers of necklaces and pairing multiple earrings. this is something we kept returning too, that we mixed with the . we had fun playing with the circle and square cuts and mixing up the colors. this pretty  was a favorite for sure.

for the necklaces, i love the simplicity of a single stone like the t but then also having the option of going to town and layering it with different colors and shapes. we loved placing this below the pendant to frame it. this was also perfect for the last look, the navy blue with the stars!

there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to a shoot like this. it all usually starts with an idea, then i have to try to create a moodboard of images and colors that give off a similar vibe that I would like to achieve. i usually have multiple boards, one for the stylist, one for the photographer, one for makeup and hair…basically i try to be as specific as possible with my vision and then let them take it further with their inspirations and input!

i hope you enjoy seeing a little behind the scenes on shoots like this. i truly love putting them together and watching them come alive, so it’s really fun to share some details of the process!

these make me happy! i hope you will check out , they are a super cool new company who i’ve loved creating content for… xx bri

STYLED | MADEWELL SALE

you know i have a soft spot for , especially when they are having one of their site wide sales (20% off orders of $100+ and 30% off orders of $200 +)! their new arrivals section is basically a collection of all my favorite fall colors in one place. so much burnt orange, reds, greens and browns. i stayed away from listing any boots because i just did this post last week but this sale is a great time to stock up on the more pricey pieces like boots and jackets (love !). lots of fun footwear options right now and i know those are exactly fall but they’re on double sale so i had to list them! – joanie

STYLED | BOOTIES

every year, by the time i start realizing it’s time to start wearing boots, all the good ones are already long sold out. so this year, i’m getting a jump start! 12 favorites below. many of them from which is currently having their site wide sale! i really like shopping boots at shopbop because they show all of them on an actual model with out the tops being covered with clothing so you can tell how they look on the leg and if they’ll be flattering, it’s hugely helpful! there are a range of price points but boots tend to be an investment piece so they are typically more expensive than your average shoes. one of my favorites though are those that come in three neutral colors and are $75! – joanie

FAVORITE SWIMSUIT

a general PSA that one of my of all time is on sale. i’ve written about this before but it really is the best suit, chic and very practical. wear it to the beach and then with a pair of shorts as a top. i’ve had mine for two years and wear it all the time, it hasn’t faded or stretched out. the , , and are all on sale. i’m generally a size 4 and i have the medium, i probably could have done the small but i’m pretty busty so medium is the best fit up top. – joanie

STYLED | HOME

as you know, i currently have all things home decor on my mind. most of the conversation around re-decorating a room is about the bigger pieces of furniture, the bed, couch, credenza, etc. but sometimes the smaller, accent pieces, make all the difference. i like to slowly accumulate special decor pieces so that it feels like a well rounded mix of items and not something that i threw together in a few weeks when i wanted the room to be done. one of my friends has the cutest that’s filled with pretty pieces, both new and vintage. she’s moving studios so everything is 25% with code HSMOVES and here are a few of my favorite things! and it’s half way through september which basically means it’s time to start holiday shopping! – joanie

(all the prices are before the 25% discount!)

$36 – our favorite linen napkins that we use in all of our food shoots!

$158 – love this beautiful piece, so subtle and special. would be so pretty with a single stem in it.

$28 – such a sucker for this vivid blue color.

$32 each  –  i have shelves full of the vintage vessels and pieces i’ve collected over the years and i don’t regret any of the. love the color variation of the black and brown on these.

$146  – we have the not vintage version of this clock on our wall. a clock is totally a undervalued addition to a living space!

$36 – prettiest pop of color for our kitchen.

$48  – for someone who lives in a place with winter, this piece is perfectly cozy.

$98 – black in interior design is definitely having a moment right now.

$25 – a non-vintage item but we love all things brass in our studio kitchen.
