STYLED / OUT OF AFRICA

styled | designlovefest

i’ve only seen the movie “Out of Africa” once but Meryl Streep’s style is something i’ll never forget. so many neutrals, collars, crisp whites, pleat front pants,  hats, buttons and sleeves. it’s truly the first thing that comes to my mind when i think of safari clothing. my friend katherine is about to go on a safari and we were talking about what she should pack.

i don’t mean this from a practical sense because i actually don’t know what one should bring on a safari but here is what i’d like to pack; romantic blouses, white cotton dresses, forest green chinos with a wide cuff, lace up boots, camel colored hats, khakis  and blazers.

$70 – it doesn’t get much chicer or wearable than a shirt dress, i love the collar on this one.

$150 – a straw tote with handles seems like the perfect safari bag to me.

$25 – i love the color and weight of the tee and the low cut back. the black would also be a good purchase

$192 – i cannot get enough of , everything they make is so romantic and i have a couple of their pieces that i love. their pieces are on the more expensive side but they are things you’ll reach for again and again.

$205 – the perfect straw hat to go with all of your looks.

$60 – i’m really into pleat front pants. i’d order these in a size bigger so you can really tie them tight with the rope.

$150 – such a pretty green color, would be the perfect tailored item to wear with a romantic white blouse

$50  – i know i’ve been posting a lot about H&M but they really are putting out really cool pieces at affordable prices.

$70 – the perfect black + white mini dress to wear all summer (or safari) long. would be so cute with an army green jacket on top.

Actually I have watched Out of Africa 10 times, about once every 2 years since the first time I saw it. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. Nothing, absolutely nothing coming out today matches the acting, cinematography, costume, story, dialog of Out of Africa. I think perhaps if more people watched Out of Africa the theaters these days wouldn’t be littered with one cynical sleezy cheap storyline after another… True class and elegance seems to have died quite a few years ago…

Love the inspo, such beautiful pieces even for spring!

I was 11 when the movie came out and for Christmas I received clothes all in varying shades of khaki. It was a lot of khaki. I wish I had those high waist pleated pants still!

Great throwback! And agreed, the fashion of the film was so classy and well put-together. I definitely can see adapting some of the pieces.
