SLEEPING IN NEW YORK

one of my favorite parts of traveling is the hotels. i’ve just always loved that first couple minutes when you check in and look around the room to see what they have. things like nice robes, cute bathroom products, delicious mini bar treats…

this time while we taught in new york we stayed at  just north of little italy. it was a great location right on the other side of the williamsburg bridge so we could quickly get over there for class. we could walk to a bunch of really cute shops and cafes. and the beds were super comfortable, which is always a .

when i got to NY, the JFK airport was more of a mess than it usually is and after waking up at 4am, flying in a middle seat, carrying 3 bags while hungry and tired…it was a REAL treat to show up at the hotel while they were serving free drinks and snacks. they did that every day in the hotel from 5-7 pm and i thought it was such a nice touch that i rarely ever see done in hotels. it’s those little things, eh?

it was a nice change from some of our normal hotel spots and fun to explore a new neighborhood. (this restaurant was right across the street!) and hotels that offer free wifi win serious points with me. have you ever stayed here? what are some of your other favorite hotel spots in the city?

take note: it’s usually a total mess on the other side of the photograph. ha!

What a gorgeous hotel, and I love the idea of a drink and a snack for guests. Travelling can be trying at the best of times!

I always only stay at 5 star hotels and it is so worth it. They always make you feel sop comfortable and do everything you want and ask for. It really makes all the difference when you want to be comfortable and relax.

Beautiful! I will have to check out this hotel next time I am in NY. That last image is so good!!!

I’m actually in New York now, and staying at the Soho Grand, mostly because it was a deal with my Amex points. I stayed here about 8 years ago, and thought that maybe it had grown tired, but it’s actually still pretty good. They have a little pop-up summer bar called Gilligans, that’s fun. And, obviously, a totally awesome location 🙂

Looks like a really fun spot! Off to check out their website 🙂

This hotel is too cute! I just stayed at a hotel that offered happy hour every day from 5-7 too, and you’re right, it is such a great touch. I will have to remember this hotel for the next time I stay over in NYC.

I stayed the Nolitan Hotel back in the spring and really enjoyed it there. Definitely agree with your post.

I desperately wanted to stay at this hotel when I was there a month ago! It looks SO beautiful! Unfortunately, I just couldn’t make it work with our budget. I stayed at the Lexington Hotel instead, which is newly renovated. It was a steal, and we really loved it!
I’m jealous of all of your fun hotel stays!

the hotel i recently stayed at in san francisco had a free happy hour as well. what a great idea! possibly too many glasses of champagne but…. no such thing, right?

looks fabulous. i think when hubs and i take our babymoon this fall we’ll end up in nyc. i majored in musical theater and i’ve never been!

Lafayette House is a sexy bit of magic from the owners of the Bowery Hotel. There are no common spaces – just noir-retro rooms in an townhouse that was one a bordello. Clawfoot tubs, working fireplaces, free bottles of Malbec. You get your own key to the front door, so it feels like a discreet pied a terre instead of a hotel.

Along the same lines, the Greenwich in Tribeca . The pictures on the website don’t do it justice – the rooms feel like the haute bachelor pad of a hot globetrotting photographer–tibetan rugs, buttery leather arm chairs, vintage design books, amazing moroccan tiled bathrooms. And the Italian restaurant is one of the best in NY. Oh and there’s this amazing Japanese onsen-style pool in the basement. Bonus points for being owned by DeNiro.

Crosby Street has a similar vibe to the Nolitan, Nomad is amazing but a little expensive for the size of the rooms.

Oh and if you don’t mind being in the Meatpacking (downside, drunk i-bankers–upside, the High Line in the morning and Chelsea Market all the time), Soho House is amazing – there’s a private rooftop pool, a screening room and an amazing organic spa. The rooms have insane amenities – every beauty product/hairdryer/straightener you could ever want, freestanding tubs in the middle of the room, huge rainshowers, full bars.

Hi Bri! I want to see how your instax pictures came out while you were at Lollapalooza…I want to buy one but I am unsure of the quality. Let us know!

This hotel is so cute! And I love the wide photo showing the mess on the other side of the shot. That is too funny. Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Bri!
Did you stay in the Neighborhood Corner room or the Cityscape Corner room? Or cityscape corner balcony or neighborhood balcony? I am staying there in October and love the room that you had. Thanks!! Charisse

My boyfriend stayed at the Nolitan recently and he Facetimed me from the room – holy crap was it nice!! I was beyond jealous but it was so cool that he was in a boutique hotel and not in a chain. Representing the local business 🙂 And we can bring our pup next time! They LOVE dogs and even give you a basket full of toys and treats! Sweet right? Love this post B!

    Tanya says:

Sold for the big bath tub alone! Next trip to NYC I’ll be soaking.

What a beautiful hotel! Will definitely have to check it out next time I’m in NYC 🙂

Hotels are definitely my favourite part of travelling too!

This hotel looks simply amazing! It’s pretty sad that you won’t be able to find something like that for cheap… The only time I’ve seen good deals was on
